What is a time of use tariff?

Last Updated -

With a time of use tariff, you pay variable amounts depending on the time of day and whether it is a weekday or the weekend. Your time of use tariff includes your variable usage charge per kWh and a daily supply charge. There are three separate usage charges you could pay; peak shoulder and off-peak. Rates vary by network area. For the time of use rate prices in your area, view our Energy Price Fact Sheets.

It is possible to change your energy tariff (which is either single rate or time of use) to one that works out more cost efficient for you. A time of use tariff would generally be cheaper for those who use more energy outside of peak times. View the Energy Price Fact Sheets to find out the peak, shoulder and off-peak times in your area.
